Different Baits Tournament Trail Instructions
Welcome to Different Baits Tournament Trail !!
Objective
You have entered the Different Baits Tournament Trail. Your goal is to catch a limit of 5 bass and most importantly, weigh in the most weight to become the Different Baits Tournament Trail Champion.
Setup
There are 4 different types of cards.
Angler Cards (5) – These cards contain the angler profile you will assume.
Bait Cards (15) – These cards contain the bait cards you will use to catch the fish.
Fish Cards (26) – These cards contain the different kinds of fish and various weights.
Action Cards (10) – These cards tell you to perform certain tasks.
How does the game start?
There will be 3 piles of cards. Baits, Fish and Angler piles.
You will start the game by picking an Angler card from the Angler card pile. The youngest player picks first and then goes around clockwise.
The Angler card you pick will have different confidence baits that the angler likes to use.
If you catch a fish on a bait that your angler has listed on its card, it will give you additional weight at weigh time.
How do you catch a fish?
To catch a fish, you must match two fish cards by fish species and weight AND you must have a bait card in your hand to use to catch the fish. If you have matching fish cards, but do not have a bait card, you must wait to draw a bait card to consider it a catch when it is your turn. See below what to do when you have a catch.
What happens after everyone has an Angler card?
The youngest person will start fishing by picking up a Fish card.
You can only have 3 bait cards and 3 fish cards in your hand at any one time.
If your Fish card tells you to pick up a bait card at the tackle store, you can at the same time pick up a bait card from the bait card pile.
If you have a matching fish in your hand and have a bait card, then you’ve got a catch and can put your catch in your live well (placing your matching fish and bait used to catch it face up in front of you).
If you do not have a matching fish card and have more than 3 bait cards or 3 fish cards, you must discard a bait card and/or fish card face up next to its respective pile in a discard pile, leaving you with a maximum of 3 fish cards and 3 bait cards.
The next player has an option to pick from either the discard pile or the unused pile. If you happen to run out of unused cards, then shuffle the discard pile and face them down so players can draw from that pile.
The play continues until someone has 5 catches (if playing with more than 2 players, you may want to lower this to 3 catches to avoid running out of cards). When that occurs, that player has an option to continue fishing and potentially replace (cull) any of their catches with bigger catches OR declare “Heading to the weigh-in!”
If a player declares that they are going to the weigh-in, then all other players have one more turn to try and improve their catches.
Once everyone’s turn is complete, everyone will count their total weight. Don’t forget, if you caught any bass on the baits that your Angler has listed as a confidence bait, then you get an additional ½ pound of weight added to your total weight.
The person with the highest weight total is declared the Champion and wins bragging rights until the next tournament.
What if there is a tie?
The player with the largest catch wins. If there is a tie for the largest catch, then it goes to second largest catch then third largest catch, etc. If they have the exact same catches, then there is a fish off between those two players.
TIGHT LINES!!
